ReplyDeleteGood hint. You guys will have to figure this one out without the help of examples because the relevant prog charts have moved on. But if you get it in theory, it won't stump you on those rare occasions when you see it in practice.
ReplyDeleteThis question may have been lost in the shuffle. Although I have never found a source that will confirm this unusual condition, what it means to me is that the outlined green area with the notation of NP is an area with no precipitation surrounded on all sides by a larger outlined green area that has precipitation activity. The inner area, notated NP means "No Precipitation".
ReplyDeleteThe prog chart for that day showed a fairly large area, almost covering the state of Montana, which maps to a same area on a weather map that had no precipitation. I imagine that there is probably some minimum size of no precipitation that has to be present before this unusual notation is used.
