Looking at the brighter side....

It seems like the days get dark very quickly these days.... but the good news is that according to some sources, yesterday was the earliest sunset for this year, 16:50. From here on out, the sunset will continue to get latter in the day. Before we know it, spring will be here.... welll maybe it will still seem like awhile before spring;->

    Actually, I think the official date in 2010 is December 21... but if you really want to celebrate the solstice this year, check this out:

    Sounds like Hawaii's answer to Burning Man. Apparently there is a total lunar eclipse about 4 hours before sunrise on the 21st this year. So... the days will still get a little shorter for a little longer, but then, soon, there is increasing light at the end of the tunnel. I think we never pay so much attention to these kinds of seasonal cycles until we start flying airplanes!

    I think we are both correct. My comment was that the sunset time as of around December 9th will start to get latter in the day, for those that prefer to fly latter in the day. Your comment I believe is specifically about the length of the day with the shortest day of the year around December 21st. The table below shows that sunset starts to get latter on December 9th however the sunrise continues to get latter such that the days continue to get shorter until around the 21st.
